Peoria police locate missing K9 officerPosted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ariz. - The Peoria Police Department located Branko, a member of the department's K9 unit, safe and unhurt.
Branko is a trained narcotics and patrol dog who has been with Peoria for about four years.
Branko was located in a backyard a few houses down from the backyard he was last seen in.
The missing bulletin went out after Branko was last seen at 8:30 a.m. Thursday near 165th Avenue and Cholla Street in Surprise when his human partner let him out of his kennel into a secured backyard for his morning routine. The backyard was still secure and Branko doesn't normally scale walls, so it is unknown how he got out.
The Peoria and Surprise police departments and Animal Care and Control units worked to locate the dog.
Branko is a Belgian Mallonios, which resembles a German Shepard, with dark brown and black coloring.
Police said he is not particularly aggressive, but in the absence of his human partner he may react in an unpredictable manner.
