ARIZONA CITY, Ariz. -- A 10-year-old boy from Arizona City is in a Phoenix hospital after being mauled by three dogs Wednesday afternoon.

Tim Gaffney with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said the boy had just exited a school bus with other children at the intersection of South Reef Road and Guaymas Drive.

The boy and his younger brother began to walk home when three dogs approached them. The children yelled at the dogs, but they continued to advance.

The 10-year-old yelled for his brother and the other kids to run for help. Gaffney said the dogs attacked the 10-year-old, biting him in the face, neck, torso and legs.

The boy's brother and the other kids returned and began to kick the dogs. Neighbors soon came out and hit the dogs with baseball bats.

The dogs fled to a nearby home where two of them were caught by Pinal County Animal Control officers and the third dog was located east of the attack location. Gaffney said all three dogs will be held by Animal Control pending the outcome of the investigation.

The boy was flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.

Pinal County Animal Control will be continuing this investigation and has contacted the owners of the dogs.
