COOLIDGE, Ariz. – A 13-year-old is reportedly at fault in a fatal collision that killed his 14-year-old passenger south of Coolidge.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call Thursday at about 8:30 p.m. about a rollover wreck on Kleck Road east of La Palma Road.

The driver was taken by medical helicopter to the Maricopa Medical Center with unknown injuries. The passenger, who was not restrained, was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the driver was traveling eastbound in a GMC Envoy at a high rate of speed. It appears the driver lost control and the tires slid on the dirt road, causing the car to roll several times.

The driver told deputies he borrowed the vehicle from a 16-year-old friend so that he could give the passenger a ride home.

Alcohol and drug impairment do not appear to be factors in the fatal rollover. Charges are pending against both the driver and the teen who loaned him the car.
