WILLCOX, Ariz. -- A fire destroyed the main building of Willcox High School Tuesday night. The district says it is canceling classes at all schools in the district until Monday.
The Willcox Fire Department says the first call came in at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday. The fire burned for several hours into Wednesday morning.
The Willcox Range News reported on its website Wednesday that officials had smelled a "petroleum" smell in the building on Tuesday and had investigated, but found nothing.
The newspaper quotes superintendent Dr. Richard Rundhaug as saying, "I'm just glad it didn't happen during the day". There were no injuries.
Rundhaug told the paper that he would need all the districts administrators to develop a plan to find classroom space before the district reopens on Monday.
