MESA, Ariz. -- A 61-year-old man died after getting trapped underneath his truck Wednesday afternoon in Mesa.
Mesa police and fire departments responded to a home near Broadway Road and 24th Street at approximately 3 p.m.
According to Sgt. Ed Wessing with the Mesa Police Department, Lane Dale Hallows was preparing to back his landscaping trailer into his son's yard as he did every day.
Hallows had previously reported issues with his 1995 Dodge Ram truck's transmission and told family members that he needed to get it checked.
Wessing said it appears that Hallows either neglected to put the truck all the way in park or the transmission slipped, causing the truck to back up. Hallows got caught up under the front driver's side tire and was run over.
Wessing said it appeared Hallows was asphyxiated due to the weight of the vehicle and his body position. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wessing said impairment does not appear to be a factor.
