Standoff in east Mesa ends; shooting suspects not foundPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- Residents of an east Mesa neighborhood woke up to a massive law-enforcement presence Wednesday morning. The standoff came to an end at about 9 a.m.
Deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office converged on the area of Sossaman and Baseline roads at about 3 a.m. after receiving a tip that two suspects in a shooting last week were in a home on Jan Avenue, which is north of Baseline Road.
According to Detective Aaron Douglas, the suspects were seen going into the home. Investigators believed they were still inside hours later.
Neighbors say a man and a woman live in the home in question.
The MCSO tactical squad with its assault armored vehicle was on the scene. Negotiators were also called out. They tried to make contact with the suspects, but the suspects refused to come out of the house.
A one point, two women came out. One of them reportedly was carrying a small child. A man in a wheelchair also came outside.
Deputies got a warrant to enter the home at about 7:45 a.m. A short time later, a boom was heard. Tactical officers then began clearing the home.
The shooting suspects were not found.
No injuries were reported.
