Crane accident closes Stapley Drive in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. -- A basket crane mounted on a utility truck tipped over while crews were working at a Mesa intersection Monday morning.

It happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. at Inverness Avenue and Stapley Drive.

Crews reportedly were taking down holiday decorations from a nearby shopping center.

The truck was making a turn onto Stapley Drive when it tipped. The basket crane was extended at the time, making the truck top heavy as it turned.

Aerial video of the scene showed the truck tipped onto its two drivers' side wheels.

When the truck tipped, the basket crane tilted into the light pole and the bucket hooked over the arm.

While a worker was riding in the basket at the time of the accident, that person was not injured.

The northbound lanes of Stapley Drive were closed while emergency crews disentangled the basket crane and moved the truck.
