Evacuations under way as winter storm moves through ArizonaPosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Residents in northern Arizona are busy stacking sandbags and building dirt berms to control the flood waters that have swept away four homes in a retirement community.
The Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire District Chief Jeff Hunt says none of the wood-framed homes was inhabited, although a man was getting ready to move into one of them.
Hunt says about a dozen other homes in the two communities are still in danger of being destroyed by water that has washed away 200 feet of roadway.
Forecasters say a northwestern Arizona weather station recorded at least 10 inches of rain Tuesday, while rainfall ranged from 10 to 14 inches in southwestern Utah.
Emergency orders remain in place in some Utah, Nevada and Arizona counties.
