Man steals cash, cigarettes from Mesa store

MESA, Ariz. -- Police are searching for an armed suspect who stole cigarettes and cash from a Mesa store early Friday morning.

Mesa police officers responded to the Diamond Shamrock near University Drive and Higley Road shortly after 4 a.m.

According to police, a man approached the clerk when they both entered the store and pointed a pistol at him. He told the clerk to get behind the counter and fill up a green duffel bag with all of the cartons of cigarettes.

The suspect then told the clerk to open the register drawer.

The suspect took all of the money then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 25 to 28 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded jacket and jeans.
