SUV crashes into two Chandler homesPosted: Updated:
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Investigators are trying to determine what caused an SUV to crash into two Chandler homes.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday near 128th Street and Riggs Road.
According to witnesses, a group of teens was in that SUV. According to police, there were three occupants. One of them fled the scene. The other two were taken to a local hospital.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, plowing into a house and hitting a gas line. The driver apparently kept going and crashed into a second house.
"All of a sudden, it was like a big boom and the house just shook -- it was the shaking of the house that was the worst -- so we didn't know what happened," said Charlene Gykin, one of the homeowners. "I opened the front door, thinking something exploded in the street, and there was a truck in my front walkway."
The area was evacuated as a precaution while Southwest Gas checked out the broken gas line. Everyone was eventually allowed back into their homes.
It's not yet clear what led up to the wreck. Investigators are trying to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash.
