MESA, Ariz. -- An alleged drunk driver was taken into custody after fleeing from police during a traffic stop.

A police officer conducted a traffic stop on the suspect Wednesday just before midnight in the 100 block of 56th Street.

The driver, identified as Hal Kaiser, pulled over, but as the officer got off his motorcycle the driver sped off, made a U-turn and fled northbound.

The police air unit was notified and the chopper was able to track the suspect’s vehicle on Higley Road from Main Street.

Kaiser allegedly committed various traffic violations and drove through several red lights while traveling approximately 70 mph.

Officers deployed stop sticks and were able to bring the vehicle to a stop on Greenfield and McDowell roads. Kaiser was taken into custody. He faces charges including driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reckless driving and unlawful flight.
