Rapper DMX going back to prisonPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Rapper DMX is going back to prison after admitting he violated his probation.
The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was sentenced Thursday to one year in prison. He will receive credit for 113 days, said Vincent Funari, a public information officer for the Maricopa County Superior Court.
Simmons, 39, was arrested last month after he allegedly failed to submit to drug testing and drove on a suspended license. He initially denied the allegations and was held without bond.
Simmons was placed on probation last year after convictions for attempted aggravated assault for throwing a food tray at a jail guard, and theft for trying to using a fake name to avoid paying a $7,500 hospital bill.
Over the years, Simmons has faced a variety of charges, including animal cruelty, reckless driving, unlicensed driving, theft, drug possession, weapons possession and identity falsification.
