Suspect allegedly makes threats and prompts police standoff in Phoenix

PHOENIX – A man was arrested and is being mentally evaluated after prompting a standoff situation with Phoenix police.

A man from out of state reportedly became belligerent Monday at about 5 p.m. and started making threats to nearby businesses and neighbors.

When officers arrived on the scene near 28th Drive and Cactus Road the suspect retreated into a white bus he was traveling in, prompting a police standoff.

Police used tear gas at around 8 p.m. to get the suspect out of the bus.

He is being evaluated by mental health specialists. It is unclear if he faces any charges.
