Mesa standoff ends with no arrest, no suspectPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- A barricade situation that went on for hours in Mesa Monday morning ended with no arrest and no suspect.
It all started with an early morning report regarding a stolen car. Officers found that vehicle abandoned in the area of Guadalupe and Extension roads in Mesa.
The suspect had taken off on foot and gotten into one of the neighborhood homes through a dog door.
That suspect confronted the homeowners, holding them hostage for about 90 minutes. While the man did have a gun, police said he never directly threatened the homeowners with it.
According to investigators, the suspect convinced the homeowners to drive him to a different location.
By that time, there was already quite a police presence in the area.
After everybody was in the car, the suspect apparently panicked, jumped out of the vehicle and ran back toward the house.
Officers on the scene believed the man had gone back into the home, but that turned out not to be the case.
Police have not released a description of the suspect.
No injuries were reported.
