Residents evacuated after crews hit gas line in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Construction crews hit a gas line near a Scottsdale apartment complex late Tuesday morning, forcing about two dozen residents to be evacuated.

The gas leak near 78th Street and Camelback Road was reported at approximately 11:40 a.m.

Approximately 25 residents were evacuated to a nearby clubhouse as a precaution, according to Scottsdale Fire Department spokeswoman Tiffani Nichols.

Southwest Gas secured the leak at approximately 12:10 p.m. and residents were allowed to return home a short time later.

No injuries were reported.
