GLENDALE, Ariz. - After a seven-month battle, a Glendale teacher now knows that he will not return to teaching at Ironwood High School.

Tim McKee was fired last May after student Jesse Prado, 16, was pulled from the pool by another student during a physical education class and later died.

The Peoria School District’s investigation into the incident concluded that he failed to supervise the student.

McKee, a nine-year PE teacher at Ironwood, lost his job after the incident but was fighting the Peoria School District to get it back.

Last month, a hearing concluded McKee did not show intentional or reckless disregard for his students’ welfare or safety.

Monday morning an executive session with the school board voted 4-1 to fire the teacher.

The board’s vote goes against the recommendation made in the hearing two weeks ago that said the district lacked evidence to prove McKee violated school board policy.

The board has the final say on employment issues within the Peoria School District.
