Woman air-lifted to hospital after car hits tree in GilbertPosted: Updated:
GILBERT, Ariz. -- A woman was flown to the hospital after her car plowed into a mesquite tree early Wednesday morning.
It happened at about 6:30 a.m. on eastbound Guadalupe Road near Val Vista Drive in Gilbert.
According to Sgt. Bill Balafas of the Gilbert Police Department, the female driver was heading west on Guadalupe Road when she crossed over the yellow line into oncoming traffic. Her car then jumped the curb and hit the tree.
Aerial video from the scene showed extensive damage to the front of the car. Emergency crews had to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
It's not yet known why the driver crossed into oncoming traffic, but police said there is no indication of impairment or speeding.
No other vehicles were involved and there was nobody else in the car when it crashed, said Capt. Shawn Dotson of the Gilbert fire Department.
The woman's condition was not known, but police said she suffered head and leg injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
