PEORIA, Ariz. -- A woman accused of killing a Peoria teen in a hit-and-run pleaded not guilty on Monday.

Laura Flanders, 23, is facing manslaughter and other charges related to the Oct. 29 hit-and-run near 83rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Peoria.

According to police, Flanders was going 40 mph with all four wheels on the sidewalk when she hit Joey Romero, 18, on his way home from work.

Police said Flanders was heavily medicated at the time of the collision. It's not clear what medication she was taking, but she reportedly ignored a warning not to drive.

Her next court date is Jan. 13.
