Mesa kids help Orphans in Munsieville, South AfricaPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- A group of Girl Scouts has banded together with students from Ishikawa Elementary school in Mesa to gather thousands of books and gifts for orphans in a small town outside of Johannesburg, South Africa.
The students learned about the project through a mother of one of their classmates. Michelle Webb has been in Muniesville, South Africa volunteering with a group called Project Hope since September.
The Ishikawa students and Girl Scouts have spent the past month gathering and wrapping the gifts, but they just found out that their plan to ship the gifts overseas has fallen through.
Now they are looking for a way to get the presents to the orphans in time for Christmas.
The adults helping with the project have reached out to several major airlines and corporations for help with shipping, but so far have been unsuccessful.
