Toddler found in swimming pool last weekend diesPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A 16-month-old girl who was found in her family's swimming pool Saturday afternoon has died.
The incident happened at approximately 5 p.m. at a home on West Townley Avenue near Olive and 51st avenues.
Fire officials said the child's parents lost track of the girl for approximately 10 minutes before she was discovered floating in the backyard swimming pool.
Investigators think the child, identified as Desiree Garcia, followed the family dog through a doggie door and into the backyard.
A total of six people were inside the home at the time of the incident, three adults and two other children.
Desiree was transported to a nearby hospital where she remained on life support until Tuesday evening. Police say they are treating her death as a tragic accident.
Glendale firefighters urge parents to watch their children around water at all times as drowning incidents can happen at any time of the year.
