PHOENIX – A son was reunited with his father after over 20 years.

In 1987 Tom Russell and his two boys, Tommy Jr. and Shaun, were involved in a head-on collision in Phoenix where three people were killed.

Tom was in a coma for three weeks and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Tommy Jr. was in a coma for three days while Shaun broke both of his legs.

The boys recovered but their father was never the same.

Tommy Jr. and Shaun say they spent their childhood with different family members in Arizona and Texas before being put up for adoption twice. Their last names were changed and they lost touch of their father.

Tommy says, “When I turned 18 I moved out of that second adopted family and had been searching for my father for the past ten years.”

Tommy says he turned to Facebook as a last resort and eventually found an uncle that eventually  led him to his father.

Tommy drove from Los Angeles to Phoenix early Thursday morning in time for Thanksgiving.

He says, “It's one of those things that you hope would happen one day, but you never really believe that it will and then when it finally does, there it was, it was surreal.”

Tom says he had prayed for this moment to come.
