Jewelers kidnapped by robbers and dropped off at Tempe mall

PHOENIX (AP) -- Maricopa County sheriff's deputies say two jewelers were kidnapped late Wednesday by robbers who stopped their van using a car equipped with police emergency lights.

The man and his sister were dropped off at a Tempe mall after being handcuffed and secured with tape. They were returning to Sun Lakes from a jewelry expo.

A sheriff's statement says the couple's van was equipped with a Lo-Jack system and a tracking system in Avondale police officer's soon picked up a signal.

Officers went to a home early Thursday and found eight people, the victim's van and items belonging to the jewelers.

Five suspects have been booked into jail on charges of kidnapping, strong armed robbery, aggravated assault, vehicle theft, trafficking in stolen property and impersonating a police officer.
