TEMPE, Ariz. - A wrong way driver caused multiple traffic accidents on eastbound Interstate 10 at the Broadway Road curve in Tempe on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Department of Public Safety Craig Tayntor, 52, from Chandler, was driving a rented red Chevy Cobalt sedan eastbound on I-10 at Baseline Road when he rear-ended another vehicle spinning both vehicles around.

At that point Tayntor drove off in the wrong direction, heading westbound on the eastbound lanes.

He continued west until colliding head-on with a Chevy Suburban under the Broadway Road overpass.

A driver of a Chevy truck swerved to avoid Tayntor's car and struck a Ford truck.

Only the driver of the Suburban was transported to the hospital for injuries.

The multi-vehicle accident snarled traffic and forced at least three lane closures eastbound on I-10 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

DPS officers arrested Taynton on-scene.

He is facing felony endangerment, extreme DUI, DUI drugs, DUI for BAC over .08 and DUI.

According to DPS, additional charges may be added as they continue to investigate the accident.
