PHOENIX - Phoenix police are looking for four to five suspects involved in a series of violent armed robberies.

According to Phoenix police, at least nine retail businesses that sell gold jewelry have been robbed in forceful takedown-style robberies by the same suspects.

In all the robberies the suspects were heavily armed.

The retail stores that have been hit include grocery stores, clothing stores and pawn shops that all sell gold jewelry displayed in glass cases.

The general area where they have occurred is between 46th Avenue to the west, 46th Street to the east, Indian School Road to the south and Dunlap Avenue to the north.

Police said in each robbery two to four suspects rapidly enter the business armed with dark-colored semi-automatic handguns with extended magazines, sometimes a long-barreled gun and sometimes a shotgun.

In every incident one suspect immediately displays a firearm and confronts the clerk, customer or attendant, ordering them to put their hands in the air or get on the ground.

The other suspects then smash the display cases with hammers and remove as much gold jewelry as possible from the cases, placing the stolen jewelry into a green military-style bag and a black duffel bag.

The suspects flee in a late-model, possibly 1988-1990 four-door Lexus sedan either white or tan in color with a darker gray along the bottom. The Lexus may have a sunroof.

The suspect who controls the clerk is a light-skinned Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall, 200 pounds, with a goatee. He wears a black beanie or black hat, dark sunglasses, black long-sleeve shirt with a symbol over the left breast area, black jeans, black-and-white shoes with white laces and holds a semi-automatic handgun in his right hand.

Suspect two is described as a light-skinned black male approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with long sideburns that meet like a goatee. He wears a dark beanie, white long-sleeve shirt with a white-collared short-sleeve shirt over it, long black baggy shorts, high-top shoes, latex gloves and carries a black semi-automatic handgun in his right hand.

Suspect three is an older black female wearing a rasta-type hat or beanie with possibly fake dreadlocks, big red sunglasses, blue long-sleeve denim shirt, black shoes and carrying a green military-style sea bag.

Suspect four is a black or Hispanic male with a short and thin build. He wears a long-sleeve blue shirt, tan pants, white-and-black shoes and a wig, possibly gray in color. He carries a black bag and a long hammer.

According to police, each robbery lasts less than a minute from start to finish and is well coordinated.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

There is a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest of the robbery suspects.
