Family fighting Arizona over Tempe land rightsPosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- A Tempe family that has lived in their home since the late 1800s is being kicked off the one-acre parcel by the state of Arizona.
The state contends that the although the Sussex family settled there in the 1890s it doesn't own the land and has no right to stay.
A judge has agreed and ordered them to leave even as they appeal.
The dispute has Steve Sussex vowing to fight for his family's adobe home.
Court documents reviewed by the East Valley Tribune show the state argues that the family has not had a valid lease for decades.
