Gilbert hosts 2nd Annual Turkey Grease DrivePosted: Updated:
GILBERT, Ariz. -- In an effort to reduce air pollution and sewage waste, the Town of Gilbert will once again work with Arizona BioDiesel to hold a turkey grease drive this holiday season.
Beginning Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 and ending Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, Valley residents may dispose of their used cooking grease at collection barrels at any Gilbert fire station.
At its processing plant, Gilbert-based AZ BioDiesel takes the used grease and converts it into a biodegradable, non-toxic alternative fuel known as biodiesel.
Tess Rafols explains how it works.
Last year’s response to the turkey grease drive was very positive. More than 3,750 pounds of used cooking oils were brought in, which equated to a 9,000-pound reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the air.
