Catalina Foothills footballer wins regional award

Catalina Foothills High School's Rex Woodbury became one of 12 high school athletes around the country to win the Wendy's High School Heisman award.

The senior won the statewide award a few weeks ago for his accomplishments in track and cross country.

Wednesday he found out in a surpise pep rally that he had won an even bigger prize.

"Our region is the west which is 16 states including California and Washington.  So, I knew every kid that made it that far was way qualified and I was happy that I was the state winner," said Woodbury.  "But I didn't think anything else would come out of it; so, I was really happy and shocked today."

Rex will go to New York next January for the Heisman ceremony where he'll compete with 5 other boys for the national title.
