Shooting at U.S. passport office on Tucson's east side; Border Patrol shooting

An early-morning shooting on the east side.

Two people in an older Chevy Suburban opened fire on a security guard leaving the U.S. passport office near Speedway and Kolb.

Tucson police confirm 53-year-old Russel Buchanan of Huachuca City was not seriously wounded.

Another item at the time of the shooting, Buchanan the was behind the wheel of a Department of Public Safety pick-up-truck he used as a volunteer with the Highway Motorist Assistant Program.

DPS tells us volunteers have permission to use state-owned vehicles only for official department business.


The Border Patrol, confirmed Tuesday night one of its agents shot a suspected illegal immigrant this morning near Walker Canyon in Santa Cruz County.

Officials there report a 30-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora was airlifted to a Tucson hospital after being shot in the stomach.

Eleven other suspected illegal immigrants were arrested during the incident.
