Arizona prison escape, a closer look

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX -- In the early morning hours of July 31, 2010, three convicted murderers escaped from a Kingman, Arizona prison.  John McCluskey, Daniel Renwick, and Tracy Province became fugitives that morning and their actions put the Arizona prison system under a microscope in the days and weeks ahead.

The three Arizona prisonors escaped with the help of an accomplice, Casslyn Welch, who we would later learn was McCluskey's fiancee and cousin.  After a few days on the lam criss-crossing the Arizona countryside, the fugitives split up.  Within days Renwick and Province were aprehended, but it would take twenty days before Arizona law enforcement officials caught up with McCluskey and Welch.

Tonight, reporter Beverly Kidd reveals exactly how it happened in a special 30-minute report on the prison escape in Arizona and its two alleged masterminds -- John McCluskey and Casslyn Welch.

“Prison Break: The Escape of Arizona’s Bonnie and Clyde” will air Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. on KTVK Phoenix Channel 3.
