Surprise man embezzles almost $200K while working at American ExpressPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) - A Surprise man who formerly worked for American Express has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for a credit card scam.
Prosecutors said Wednesday that 36-year-old James Blake Delpit was sentenced to 21 months in prison and ordered to pay more than $195,000 in restitution. A U.S. District Court judge in Phoenix also ordered Delpit to serve three years of supervised release after his prison term.
Delpit pleaded guilty to wire fraud in May.
While employed at American Express, authorities say Delpit devised a scheme to siphon off small amounts of money owed to 62 different merchants. They say Delpit embezzled $195,396 between October 2007 and September 2009.
