Maria Garcia will serve as State Senator; Protest at Rove visit

A local lawmaker who died shortly before election day will be replaced in office by his wife.

Maria Garcia will serve the remainder of late State Senator Jorge Luis Garcia's term.

An informal session will take place Wednesday in Phoenix.

The pima county board of supervisors selected Maria Garcia for the District 27 spot.

The Garcias were married 37 years.


Protesters greeted former White House aide Karl Rove during his trip to the Phoenix Tuesday.

Rove was in the Valley of the Sun as a featured speaker at a chamber of commerce forum.

While rove was inside, anti-war protesters staged a mock arrest of someone dressed like him for war crimes.
