PHOENIX - Tyler Messerschmidt was the big winner at this year's Swimming and Diving State Championships breaking Gary Hall Jr.'s 17-year record in the 100-yard freestyle with the a time of 43.71. Hall's record was 43.85 set in 1994.
Messerschmidt, a senior at Desert Edge, also broke his own record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:36:33.
Tucson Catalina Foothills took home the team championship for boys and girls in Division II.
Xavier took home the Division I girls title besting second place Chaparral by almost 200 points.
Brophy won the Division I boys side, also dominating their team competition.
