AVONDALE, Ariz. – An Avondale man was accidentally run over and killed by his drunken girlfriend while in Green Bay, Wis.

Police say Kenneth Brown, 41, was run over Friday at about 11 p.m. allegedly by his girlfriend, identified as Marlene Wanek, 42.

Brown had been unemployed for several months and had been staying with his girlfriend in Wisconsin.

Prior to the incident, the couple was at a local bar having drinks when they got into an argument because Wanek wanted to gamble at a machine inside the bar.

Brown decided to walk home and Wanek got into her vehicle to find him. She reportedly accidentally ran over him approximately three blocks from the bar. Police say Wanek got out of her car and tried to help by performing CPR once she realized she had struck her boyfriend.

Lt. Brad Florence, with Green Bay police, says, "That is quite unusual to have a situation like this. Oftentimes the victim and suspects don't know each other so it appears that this was just a tragic incident.”

Wanek had a blood alcohol level that read more than twice the state’s legal limit of .08.

Brown’s neighbor in Avondale said he was gone a lot but always had a smile on his face.

He seemed to be really nice," David Schahrer said. "I know that he was a truck driver and he was gone for a long time.”

Wanek faces charges including homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, which is a felony in Wisconsin.
