AAA: 2 out of 5 drivers have fallen asleep drivingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Driving and drifting off to sleep is dangerous and has been part of nearly 17 percent of fatal crashes according to AAA.
The auto club says two out of every five drivers admit falling asleep at the wheel at least once, with one in ten saying they've done so in the past year.
AAA Arizona says 41 percent have "fallen asleep or nodded off"
while driving at least once in their lifetime and 55 percent of those drivers who reported having fallen asleep while driving said it occurred on a high-speed divided highway.
AAA says drivers should schedule a break every two hours or every 100 miles. Travel at times when you are normally awake, and schedule overnight stays on long road trips rather than driving straight through.
