A 2-year old boy was hit and killed in his own yard this morning by a vehicle driven by his grandfather.

Tucson police are in the 100 block of West Nebraska conducting an investigation.

The boy, identified as Evan Edgar Lopez,  was struck shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday.  He was rushed to University Medical Center where he died shortly before 10 a.m.

Police at the scene tell Fox 11's Brian Roberts that the grandfather was backing up a truck when it struck the boy.  Police say the child's mother and grandmother were inside the house at the time and alerted police.

The grandfather was apparently preparing to do some landscaping on the property when the incident occured.  Police say he was moving a truck and was not aware the toddler was in his path.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed.
