'Queenie' adopted after spending 8 years in MCSO jailPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – A pitbull mix that has spent the last 8 years in the sheriff department’s animal shelter has been adopted.
"Queenie" was taken to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Animal Safe Haven in 2002 after her owner was arrested for animal abuse and neglect.
Queenie stayed for a total of 8.5 years although her owner only had to spend 24 hours behind bars.
Eva Decozio, a local veterinarian who says her home is an animal sanctuary, decided to adopt Queenie Friday.
She says, “What our sanctuary takes in is usually animals that are unadoptable, chronically ill, injured, otherwise euthanized animals and when he told me about Queenie, she fit the bill.”
Queenie was reportedly looked after by inmates during her time in a Maricopa County facility.
