Man with bloody hands, severed fingers killed by police in MesaPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. – A man was shot and killed by several Mesa police officers Friday after allegedly pointing a gun at them with bloody hands and possibly severed fingers.
Police say a letter carrier called 911 at about 11:30 a.m. after seeing a man, identified as 45-year-old Dana Alan Rowe, standing in front of a house with bloody hands and what appeared to be severed fingers.
As police were en route to the scene, the mail carrier called 911 again and reported hearing gunshots.
Officers said they heard additional gunshots once they arrived on scene near Sixth Street and Dobson Road.
Rowe reportedly came out of the house and pointed a gun at officers, who then shot and killed the suspect.
Preliminary information indicates he may have been staying with the residents at that house.
