Mesa teacher shaves head for student with leukemiaPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- Lowell Elementary School is rallying around one of its students this morning, and one of the teachers is doing something a bit unusual as part of a fundraising effort.
The Lowell student is undergoing treatment for leukemia, and his mother has been diagnosed with a blood cancer. With that family in mind, Lowell Elementary students participated in Pasta for Pennies during a three week period from Oct. 8 through Oct. 29, and raised over $2,600.
Javier Soto introduces us Norma Jean Velardi, who agreed to shave her head in an effort to motivate the kids to raise the money. They far surpassed their goal.
