PHOENIX – A major security alert was prompted after a death threat was made against Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon.

The threat was called into the mayor’s office from a payphone late Thursday afternoon. The caller allegedly said Gordon would be shot in front of a crowd gathered at the grand opening of the CityScape development downtown.

The show went on as planned with additional security and the mayor delivered a speech in front of a large crowd.

Police are still investigating the threat.
