Former minister admits molesting Phoenix man 30 years agoPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – A man faces sexual conduct with a minor, molestation and sexual indecency charges for crimes that allegedly took place 30 years ago.
The victim was between 10 and 14 years old at the time the crimes allegedly took place starting in 1980. He told his wife about the incidents and decided to report the crimes to police last month.
David Nelson, 63, was arrested Wednesday. He had been ordained as a Jehovah’s Witness minister in 1979, about one year before the alleged crimes. He has since retired from his position at the church. He was reportedly a friend of the victim’s family.
During the investigation by the Phoenix Police Sex Crimes Unit, Nelson was interviewed and admitted his involvement in the crimes. He also mentioned he had recently called the victim and apologized.
Police are not sure if Nelson victimized other children but encourage anyone who may know something about this case to contact police.
Nelson faces charges including sexual conduct with a minor, molestation of a child and public sexual indecency.
