PHOENIX – Police are looking for a driver accused of intentionally running over a man in South Phoenix Wednesday morning.

Police said the victim, who is believed to be a transient, apparently got into an altercation on the street with the driver. That driver allegedly began inching his car toward the victim before pressing the gas pedal and running over the victim in an alley located near 14th Avenue and Roeser Road.

A witness said he heard the man’s cries for help as he was in his backyard. The witness said the driver did not press the brakes or even slow down before running the victim over.

Another witness said the victim had a tire mark burned across his back. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver fled the scene. Police said the vehicle involved is a gray 2000 or 2001 mid-sized car.
