PHOENIX – Two men were arrested in connection to an undercover operation shootout where a Chandler police officer was killed.

Phoenix police said Anthony Jerome Wright, 39, was arrested Friday in Chicago. The second suspect, Corey Rydell Royalty, 38, was taken into custody Aug. 22 in Henderson, Tenn.

Chandler detectives were conducting the undercover operation on the evening of July 28 when a shootout broke out and Detective Carlos Ledesma was killed in the line of duty.

Phoenix police arrested six suspects the night of the shooting. Royalty was arrested with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service. He was brought to Phoenix and booked on Aug. 29.

The U.S. Marshals Service also assisted in apprehending Wright in Chicago. Wright has not arrived in Phoenix.

Police believe both Royalty and Wright were major players in setting up the drug transaction. Both of these suspects allegedly fled Phoenix shortly after the crime.
