TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe police say an 11-year-old girl lied about an attempted abduction Wednesday morning.

According to Tempe police Sgt. Steve Carbajal, the girl initially said she was riding her bike to Fees College Preparatory Middle School at approximately 6:55 a.m. when she noticed a red vehicle near Lakeshore Drive and Baseline Road.

The girl said the suspect jumped out of the car and grabbed her arm, but the girl fought back and fled on her bike.

Police determined the girl made up the story and notified the media just before 4 p.m.

The girl had provided a very detailed description of the vehicle and the suspect.
