Man shoots son-in-law during argument at Red Rock homePosted: Updated:
RED ROCK, Ariz. -- Pinal County sheriff's deputies are investigating after a man reportedly shot and killed his son-in-law during an argument at a home in Red Rock Monday night.
Shortly before 10 p.m., the Pinal County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a woman in the 37700 block of South Priest Lane, reporting that her husband had just shot her son-in-law.
Deputies and medical personnel arrived and Michael McGovern, 33, was treated for the gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
According to sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney, McGovern and his father-in-law, Ken Bock, 60, were in a verbal argument over finances and the fact that Bock would not purchase airline tickets for McGovern and his wife to return to New York.
At some point, McGovern reportedly threatened Bock and his wife with a knife. Bock told deputies that he feared for his and his wife's safety so he shot McGovern.
Gaffney said Bock and McGovern had been drinking heavily prior to the shooting.
The sheriff's office is awaiting autopsy results and continues to investigate the shooting.
At this time, it has not been determined if any charges will be filed.
