GILBERT, Ariz. -- A Gilbert toddler is in critical condition after her parents found her in their backyard pool Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Gilbert Fire Department, the child's parents pulled her from the water.
Neighbors said the father is a doctor and performed CPR until rescue crews arrived.
The 19-month-old girl was not breathing and did not have a pulse when firefighters arrived at the home near Elliot Road and Val Vista Drive shortly after 1 p.m.
The girl reportedly was in the water for about five minutes. There is no word on how she got into the pool.
Aerial video showed that there was not a fence around the pool.
The toddler was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. According to a family friend on Thursday, the child is able to breathe on her own but is on life support.
