Teen, toddler thrown from SUV in Surprise rollover wreckPosted: Updated:
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Two children are fighting for their lives after the SUV they were riding in flipped over Saturday morning. Neither child was wearing a seat belt.
It happened at about 8:30 a.m. the intersection of Cactus Road and Bullard Avenue in Surprise.
According to police a Chevy Camaro plowed into a Chevy Tahoe, causing the SUV to roll several times.
A 16-year-old girl and an 18-month-old boy were thrown from the Tahoe as it rolled. Both kids suffered head trauma and were air-lifted to a local hospital. At last check, they were in critical condition.
The 35-year-old driver of the Tahoe was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance. Her injuries reported were not life threatening.
The 69-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of the Camaro that ran the light suffered only minor injuries and was not transported.
Investigators said there is no indication that driver impairment was a factor in the crash.
While police believe one the vehicles ran a red light, the wreck remains under investigation.
