MCSO identifies 2 men found lying by side of Mesa road; connected to stabbing

MESA, Ariz. -- The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has identified two men who were found lying by the side of a road in northeast Mesa on the morning of Oct. 29.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jesse Spurgin said a passerby found the men along the side of Usery Pass Road approximately two miles north of McDowell Road at about 10:45 a.m.

One man was declared dead at the scene. The other man was airlifted to a local hospital where he died just after noon.

The men were identified as Alejandro Rafael Meza, 22, and Christian Bolanos Garcia, 28. Investigators have determined both men died from gunshot wounds.

According to MCSO, Meza and Garcia had attacked and stabbed a Scottsdale woman earlier that morning before fleeing in their car.

MCSO also said evidence at the scene indicates that the deaths may be a murder-suicide.

MCSO detectives are continuing their investigation.
