Truck hits DPS motorcycle officer on S.R. 51 in PhoenixPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A Department of Public Safety motorcycle officer was injured after he was hit by a truck on State Route 51 in Phoenix Friday morning.
The crash happened at 7:35 a.m. on northbound S.R. 51 near Greenway Road.
DPS Officer Robert Bailey said a truck pulling a trailer didn't see the motorcycle officer and changed lanes into him, causing the officer to go down.
Bailey said the officer skidded for almost 100 feet, leaving debris in the road and a visible skid mark from his jacket.
The motorcycle officer was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He reportedly has road rash, bruises and possible broken bones but is expected to be OK.
"We'd definitely like to thank the drivers who were here and aware and avoided him and his motorcycle, otherwise it definitely could have been very serious or fatal," Bailey said.
The officer's name has not been released.
