George Silva, SCC Attorney, says as a result of additional funds from the Justice Department's initiative to fight border-related crime, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tucson has nearly double the prosecutors it had three years ago and is prosecuting drug cases at a record rate.  He says that means drug smugglers caught with under 500 pounds of marijuana are no longer being “kicked.”  Silva says those with even just a few ounces of pot could now be prosecuted.
