Eight additional suspects arrested in connection to Phoenix boy's shootingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Phoenix police arrested eight more suspects connected to a gang shooting earlier this month near 29th Avenue and Taylor Road.
A 5-year-old boy was shot in the chest and sustained serious injury. An 18-year-old was also transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Through the police investigation they found Michael Favela, the suspect arrested the night of the Oct. 6 shooting, had an ongoing dispute with the residents of the same apartment complex.
Police identified Freddy Payan, 23, as the shooter. Michael Sanders, 19, Ramon Sagasta, 19, Bartolo Duran, 21, Ricky Munos, 20, Marcos Ramos, 21, Alfredo Favela, 18, and Fancisco Duarte, 20, were also identified as suspects.
All of those involved have affiliations to rival gangs.
They face charges consisting of aggravated assault, assisting in a criminal street gang, gang threatening and intimidating and participation in a criminal street gang.
Police said Favela was involved in two physical altercations with the intended victims prior to the shooting.
The family of the five year-old victim has set up an account under the name Josel at Chase Bank to help with rehabilitation and medical bills.
